About the Role
Redwing is looking for a positive, capable and motivated individual, who is passionate about Redwing’s mission, to be our operations and cafe co-ordinator
This will be a varied, at times fast-paced and multi-faceted role, best suited to someone who is committed to Redwing’s mission and can foster an inclusive, welcoming environment whilst ensuring smooth running of the café, gallery and other day-to-day operations.
The post-holder will be working mainly in a public-facing role in our community gallery and café where inclusivity, efficiency, warmth and attention to detail will be essential. It will be necessary to juggle multiple priorities while working effectively and remaining positive and welcoming.
Background to the Role
This is a new role and will initially be a pilot for 4 months.
The role is a 4-day-a-week role with some flexibility but ideally core hours of 9:30 to 5, though some flexible working will be offered regarding some evenings.
This post will involve working closely with the CEO and Directors, to take on a range of operational duties and responsibilities.
Redwing has got to the exciting position it is currently in, due to the enormous dedication and hard work of volunteers and directors. As Redwing has grown and developed, the duties undertaken by the CEO are now all-encompassing. The post-holder will be taking on some of these duties and working closely with/under the CEO and directors to effect this, whilst ensuring operations are running as smoothly and effectively as possible, whilst also maintaining Redwing’s ethos, alongside a team of committed and skilled volunteers.
The operations at Redwing are a unique combination: a vegan café alongside a safe and inspiring outsider creative arts space, alongside an inclusive, welcoming supportive community space and services such as a repair café and food larder. It will take a very special combination of skills, qualities and mindset to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the operations whilst maintaining Redwing’s unique ethos.
The role will therefore be a very hands-on and varied role. Duties will include ordering, dealing with enquiries, making and serving food and drinks, supporting exhibition installations, coordinating the rota, washing up, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment, training and coordinating volunteers or young people on placement, selling art, being a listening ear, liaising with the many different groups, organisations and performers that book and use the space, stock takes, supporting the health and safety of operations.
The post-holder will be working alongside a committed, skilled team of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of Redwing’s operations on a day-to-day basis. As the role develops during the 4-month period, there will be increasing opportunities to take on responsibility.
The process of creating and shaping this role and its responsibilities whilst retaining the Redwing ethos will require significant input and thought. The post-holder, the CEO and directors will navigate, together, the shape of this role and its responsibilities, to best ensure this pilot is effective and contributes to the sustainability and potential growth of Redwing going forward.
We plan to review the pilot to make any adaptations to the role and future roles available at Redwing. There will therefore be the opportunity for this role to be extended depending on pilot outcomes and funding.
